Why Indian textile industry counts among the leading textile industries of the world?

Since Independence, textile has been a key industry for India. After agriculture, it is the largest generator of employment opportunities for the countrymen. Figure wise, it gives direct employment to over 35 million people of India. It also contributes handsomely to the industrial production (which is about 14 per cent) and to the gross domestic product of country (which is about 4 per cent).

The abundance of raw materials – such as cotton, jute, silk, wool, man-made fibers (MMF) – and skilled manpower are the reasons for the brilliant performance of the industry in all these years. Textile exporters in India are doing their best to take their products to every part of the globe, and they have been quite successful in their endeavour so far.

Besides apparels, towels and bathrobes are other important products that are high in demand both in the domestic market and outside. Even a thing like towel has been tweaked in several ways, and now we have a whole range of towels such as beach towels, designer towels, organic towels, jacquard towels, etc. The same is the case with bathrobes, which are produced in several styles, designs, and lengths.

The textile industry of India has been growing by leaps and bounds; and we hope it continues to provide employment as well as export earnings to the country in the decades to come.
